What is a CMY Cube?
In the 1960s, American artist, Vasa Mihich, developed techniques for working with coloured forms based on simple Euclidean shapes.
With an advanced understanding of optical complexities, Vasa has become, in the words of Henry Seldis, former art critic of The Los Angeles Times, "the most sensuous and sensational colorist of the southern California artists working in plastic." His work was included in the seminal exhibition American Sculpture of the Sixties at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1967 and in other museums and university exhibits.
These Vasa inspired CMY Cube use primary colours Cyan, Magenta & Yellow (CMY) and are created to help view life & light through a different lens.
To completely appreciate and experience these cubes, hold the cube before light or dip it into a sunbeam to bathe the room in a shifting spectrum of colour.
I saw someone holding the cube between their fingers on reddit, spinning the cube. I knew in that moment: I want to spin a cube! Now that I own the cube, I'll admit, it looks beautiful (especially when spun, it's very pretty). However, the corners are very sharp, and they hurt my fingers. It kinda hurts to spin it, but it hurts so good... because it's very pretty. I'm happy with this strange & pretty product! It looks exactly how I imagined it would, and it's very pleasing. It sits on my desk and looks pretty... what more could you want from a colourful cube?! A1 stuff!
It's well-crafted and a fascinating concept. It's nice to show my friends, everyone is wowed when they see the cube. Delivery did take a very long time (approximately 3 months), though COVID and Christmas shopping season were factors, I'm sure.
My 1 year old child really loves it !
I love this conversation piece and how clever it is. In retrospect, I could have been fine with the smaller one, but it stands out nicely on my desk. Avoid fingerprints if you want the best experience. I hope the colors don't chip or wear over time!
It took awhile to recieve due to covid mailing restrictions . Gabi was great answering emails, keeping in touch and doing the best she could due to the world circumstances going on. The product (cube)was great, very good quality and enjoyed!
